Attendance
Arrival
Students may begin to arrive at 8:45. Teachers aren't available to supervise before this time. School begins at 9:05. Dismissal Walkers and parent pick-up students are dismissed to the gym at 4:00. Bus riders are walked to their buses by the teachers. Students must have a note if going home a way different than usual. If a student doesn’t have a note, he/she will be dismissed in his/her usual method. If you have a change in your dismissal, please notify the main office by calling 314-415-6450. This will ensure that your child will make it to the correct dismissal location. |
Attendance
Daily attendance is essential for a successful school year. I realize there are occasions when an appointment must be scheduled during school hours. In this case, an authorized parent or guardian must pick up the child from the office. The office will notify us of your arrival. Students will not be dismissed to a parent or guardian without notification from the office. If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please call the attendance hotline at 314-415-6476 to inform the office staff of the absence. Work missed by the child will be completed when the child returns. |
Expectations
Classroom Expectations
At Mason Ridge, students and staff follow the Mustang Way which consists of three key values: Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity. These values will help all students reach their goals and allows them to work in an environment conducive to learning. In addition to this, fourth graders are expected to show leadership to fellow classmates and the younger grade levels. Demonstrating self-control is key to each child's success. The Fourth Grade Team works to instill these values in your child so that they are prepared for the coming year in fifth grade. |
Homework
Students will have twenty minutes of reading Monday through Thursday. In addition to reading, students will have other homework to supplement our classroom learning most nights. As we approach the end of the year, homework practices will be adjusted to prepare students for the upcoming school year. |
Nutrition
Lunch and Recess
Recess is scheduled from 12:45-1:05 with lunch following from 1:05-1:25. If you are meeting your child for lunch, please sign in at the office and obtain a visitor badge. You may meet him/her in the hall outside of the office or by the cafeteria. Please remember that students are not allowed to share lunch. This includes anything brought to lunch by a parent. Our second recess is scheduled from 2:20-2:40 but may be adjusted due to instructional needs in the classroom. |
Snacks
Students may bring a healthy snack (no junk food, please) to enjoy during the school day. We will have a designated snack time every day. We do have a water fountain in the classroom, but students are welcome to bring a water bottle. |
Miscellaneous
Birthdays
Each child will have the opportunity to celebrate his or her birthday throughout the school year (summer birthdays can celebrate on their half-birthday or at the end of the school year). Due to Parkway policy, no consumable items will be allowed for distribution in the classroom or school. If your child would like to celebrate his/her birthday, please consider other options, such as pencils, erasers, stickers, or a book for our classroom library. Conferences Conferences are held in late September/early October and at the end of second trimester. Sign-ups will be online. Watch for an email from the school regarding the procedure. Reminders will be sent home via email prior to each conference. Conferences can also be scheduled as needed throughout the year. |
Parties
We have three scheduled parties this year from 2:30-3:30. Our classroom coordinator will be part of the planning process of these parties; please contact her with any questions.
Scholastic Book Clubs Several times during the year, the children are given the opportunity to purchase books from book clubs. If your child chooses to participate, please send a check made out to the Scholastic Book Club for the exact dollar amount. Orders can also be made online and paid for with a credit card.
